About Newport’s Historic Bayfront

If you’re looking for a fun and relaxing place to shop, dine, and play, the Newport Bayfront is perfect for you. But it’s also home to Oregon’s largest commercial fishing fleet, so you can get fresh seafood right off the boat! The Newport Historic Bayfront is the heart of the Old Town district. It’s located in Yaquina Bay and features a variety of shops, restaurants, galleries and more. The area has been an integral part of Newport’s maritime culture since it was first developed in 1875.Take a stroll around the harbor and enjoy seeing fishing men, seal, and tourists alike. Visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium and explore the underwater world of sea life. The bayfront also offers up some great opportunities to shop, with a variety of stores selling souvenirs, clothing and other items. There are also plenty of restaurants to choose from! If you visit during the summer, take advantage of all the festivals that Newport has to offer. You can enjoy the Oregon Coast Music Festival or take a seat at the annual Seafood & Wine Festival — both are sure to be memorable experiences! The Newport Historic Bayfront is a vibrant and historic part of Oregon’s coastal culture, with something for everyone.

“This place has such an amazing collection of shops and restaurants, am somewhat disappointed I didn’t get to go to all of them. Has something I’ve never seen anywhere else: a dock surrounded by barking sea lions at all hours of the day. Was insanely cute and fascinating. Many of the buildings also have beautiful murals painted on the sides, all marine life themed. The view of the water, pier, and bridge is stunning from here, and you get to see all of the ships and things coming by less than a stone’s throw away”

“Great fun for a quick day trip from Willamette Valley…we luv the taffy and candy shops…fun gift shops and art. After leaving the candy store…my daughter commented that it reminds her of “what a candy store in heaven would be like!” But the sea lions were our favorite! Loud and stinky though! Grandsons got a real kick outta the sea lions on the docks…have fun!”
