Hikes Near Seaside, Oregon

One of the best ways to explore the stunning and unique beauty of Seaside is to hit the trails. Seaside boasts numerous trails in and around town, from kid-friendly strolls on the Prom to more challenging climbs that reward you with breathtaking views.

Here are a few of our favorite hikes:

Kid-Friendly

Along the Seaside Promenade

The walk along Seaside’s beloved Promenade is more of a stroll than a hike, but it is a longstanding family favorite pastime. The Prom is 1.5 miles and paved, so ideal for strollers. We recommend timing your walk just before sunset so you can watch the sun kiss the day goodbye over the glimmering ocean.

Nature Lovers

Mill Ponds Trail

The Mill Ponds Trail, also known as Chapman Ponds, is an excellent spot to view local wildlife. Part of the Neawanna Creek watershed, this area consists of a freshwater pond as well as a tidal-influenced pond. Various species of amphibian insects, birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles call this ecosystem home.

The flat trail is less than a mile long, making it a perfect activity the whole family can enjoy.

Experienced Hikers

Saddle Mountain Trail

Head to the Saddle Mountain trail for a 5-mile round-trip hike that will reward your efforts with expansive views of the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River, and the Coast Range. If you are lucky, on a clear day, you may also catch a glimpse of the Cascade Mountains.

The main trail is steep and difficult in spots, with a 1,640-foot rise in elevation over 2.5 miles, but if you prefer a less rigorous climb, try the short, 10-minute Humbug Mountain Viewpoint trail that branches off from the main trail a quarter mile from the trailhead. Leashed pups allowed.

Note: This park is currently closed and is scheduled to reopen spring of 2023. We recommend contacting the park directly for updates.

Lewis and Clark Discovery Trail

Lewis and Clark Discovery Trail is a moderately challenging 14.1-mile out-and-back historical trail. Enjoy stunning views and beautiful seasonal wildflowers. Leashed dogs are allowed.

Lighthouse Views

Tillamook Head Trail

For a glimpse of the now decommissioned Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, also known as “Terrible Tilly”, hit the Tillamook Head Trail. Rated as a moderately difficult hike through deep coastal forest, the entire trail to Ecola State Park is 6.3 miles with an elevation gain of 1,126 feet. Leashed dogs are allowed.
