Start your day the local way with a fresh cup of coffee or hot chocolate and a house-made pastry. Try their bacon-cheddar “biscones,” a cross between a biscuit and a scone, irresistible cinnamon rolls, and their sand dollar hand pies.
Hit the Beach
Rockaway’s long sandy stretch of beach has been drawing families for generations. Dip your toes in the sand, build a sandcastle, beachcomb, fly a kite, and gather around a bonfire as you watch the sunset over the glimmering Pacific Ocean.
A favorite pastime of the locals is to drop a line and spend the day relaxing at Rockaway Beach’s largest lake. Lytle Lake covers 65 acres with a boat launch and a fishing dock. The lake is stocked from mid-March through early May with large-mouth bass, and cutthroat and rainbow trout.
Fly a Kite
The largest kite flying contest in the Northwest happens at Rockaway Beach every August. Flamingo Jim’s Gifts and Clothing offers a large selection of colorful kites and other beach-themed souvenirs. Pick up a kite, head to the beach, and discover why Rockaway Beach is a kite flyer’s dream location.
Take a Tasty Tour
Jump in the car and head to nearby Tillamook Creamery where you can take a self-guided tour, shop for a gift or souvenir at the market store and indulge in some creamy Tillamook ice cream served on a waffle cone at the café.
Give Crabbing a Try
Head to Kelly’s Brighton Marina, where you can toss a crab trap right off their dock or take a guided crab catching excursion in beautiful Nehalem Bay. The friendly and knowledgeable crew will even show you how to clean and cook your catch of the day. They can also provide you with any gear and equipment you may need for a fun and memorable day of crabbing.

Step back in time and enjoy a relaxing ride along the scenic Tillamook Bay and the Oregon Coast behind a vintage diesel locomotive or authentic steam locomotive! Check out the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad’s regularly offered routes as well as special events like Easter Eggstravaganza Train, St Patrick’s Pub Train and Spring Splendor Excursion.
